First time throwing

I used the wheel for the very first time and I’d say it was a success…

With no prior experience throwing clay on a wheel, I was apprehensive on how this experience would go. Having no expectations, I presumed my clay would end up in a blob. However, with the help of our technician Cath, she showed me step-by-step on how to throw a pot!

After watching her example, I gave it a go and to my surprise it went rather well! It’s tradition to keep your first ever pot so therefore, I labelled my pot- ‘Lucy’s 1st Pot’ and put it on the shelf to dry ready for the kiln.

Being left to my own devices, I then began throwing some more. In the end I threw 9 pots and ended up scrapping a few as I left the bases too thin so they broke away when I pulled the wire under them. I kept 5 and the next day I came back to add some details, inspired from our previous workshop on mark-making, and added line details and texture. They’ve now been bisque fired and I’m still awaiting to see the results…
