Drawing with Sticks using Ink

Using a stick to draw with allowed me to pick up on the very basic shapes and forms from the reference images I was using from Keswick. However, it also adds an element of unpredictability. You can’t control the full outcome and this results in some really nice marks, lines varying in thickness and organically produced forms.

These series of drawings allowed me to create multiple forms and methods to mark-making. I also really enjoyed the process. It shared a similar feeling to creating ceramics as there is always a percentage of unpredictability in everything we make. Being able to not control the outcome, is very freeing and can welcome new ideas & approaches to making.

This is a method of development i’d definitely re-visit and could become a staple to my making practice.
