Finding Form Through The Land
When I was in Keswick, I took a number of oil pastel rubbings on rocks, pebbles, tree’s and various sections of land around the lake. When viewing these back, I managed to follow the lines within the rubbings to create forms in my sketchbook. As further development, I'll be looking at the various marks and seeing how I can transform them into clay. I recently saw a technique where an artist applied grogged slip onto some hessian fabric and then applied it on the side of their form. It left small details of the fabric but applied the slip in a patchy, non-replicable way. It reminded me of my oil pastel rubbings and how they depicted a similar visual.
A sketch of the landscape surrounding the lake.
The lighter brown is dirt/soil used from around the lakeside. Used in conjunction with a brown oil pastel and pencil.
